Your Guide to Miniature Marvels
and Evergreen Elegance

These miniature ecosystems, encased in glass, evoke the timeless charm of Victorian gardening while offering a beautiful way to bring nature indoors. Here’s what you need to know to get it right, and keep your creation in top condition.

What you’ll need:
Glass jar with a cork stopper (preferably)
Fine gravel
Tumbled black pebbles
Activated charcoal
Peat-based soil mix
Small gardening tools
Assortment of plants. We’ve used:
Chlorophytum
Hen and Chick
Kryptanthus
Hypoestes

Step 1: Creating the Base
Layer the jar with fine gravel and tumbled black pebbles, ensuring an even distribution. For more control, a piece of rolled up card and a funnel make all the difference.
Add a layer activated charcoal to prevent water-related issues, and distribute it evenly.
Spread the peat-based soil mix as the final layer and creating a small hole for planting.

Step 2: Plant Your Greenery
Choose plants with diverse textures, tease excess soil from roots, and strategically plant them.
Adorn the top layer with sphagnum moss, avoiding overcrowding.

Step 3: Watering and Placement
Water the terrarium, ensuring even distribution, but be careful not to over water.
Place it in a well-lit area with indirect sunlight.
Keep the cork slightly ajar for the first week, sealing the terrarium once condensation is no longer visible on the sides of the jar.

Cultivate your terrarium to infuse timeless elegance into your living space, nurturing a self-sustaining microcosm within a glass jar. Follow these steps, and watch your terrarium evolve into a living masterpiece – a testament to the enduring beauty of nature in miniature form.
