Tomato Base for Pizza



  • 15ml olive oil
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 410 g can chopped tomatoes
  • 10ml sugar
  • salt and pepper
  • 45ml chopped fresh basil


  1. Heat the oil and gently fry the onions and garlic until soft.
  2. Add the tomatoes, sugar and simmer for 20 minutes until thick.
  3. Season well and stir in chopped basil.
  4. The sauce may be pureed or left chunky.
