Paper Flowers
This week, Gloria is joined by Lucinda Markram from Luna Artistry. She shows us how to make colourful and creative paper flowers. She will teach us various techniques such as curling crepe paper, moulding the paper to form any desired shape and assembling the paper shapes created. She will also show us the versatile uses of this paper for décor, hair accessories, gifts and so much more!

Instructions
STEP 1: Cut the petals
Cut out the teardrop-shape and the heart-shape Petal templates stapled to Colour Crepe paper.
STEP 2: Shape the petals
Turn petal over and use the round pencil to curl the top of the petal
With both hands, pull from the center of the petal outward. This will create a cupping of the paper (which is what gives it the petal-like quality)
STEP 3: Create the rose
Start building flowers by first placing teardrop-shape petal around the stem and securing with glue gun. Glue each petal, alternating around the stem. Place heart-shape petals around the “bud” you have created and secure. Repeat until all petals have been used.
STEP 4: the calyx
Cut the calyx shape from green Crepe Paper. Wrap calyx around bottom of rose and glue in place.
STEP 5: the leaves
Cut out three leaf shapes from green Crepe paper. Draw a bead of glue down the center of each leaf, place a wire down, and pinch the Crepe paper together over the wire to create a “vein” to hide the wire. Bend and shape leaves. Attach the leaves to the stem by fastening it with tape.
STEP 6: Finish Off
Stretch out the supplied Green Crepe paper for the stem. Using your fingers pull gently outwards. Make sure you have enough pieces to cover the stem. Add glue and secure the paper to the stem, by spiralling it around the stem; glue in place.
Finish off by spreading the petals so that the flower takes shape.

Tips before you Start
VERY IMPORTANT: Crepe paper is directional so it matters which way you’re cutting the paper. Make sure the grain is vertical when you’re cutting the flower pieces.
Crepe paper can be cut out in layers of 3.
Warning:
Use caution when operating a glue gun as it gets extremely hot.

Instructions
STEP 1: Cut the leaves
Cut strips of crepe paper. Cut out quantities as directed. They should be in more or less in relation as per the photos below.
1. x6
2. x6
3. x6
4. x6
5. x8
STEP 2: Create the petals
Twist and fold:
Find the center of the rectangle and twist the paper and fold it on top of itself. Glue the two pieces of crepe paper together at the open end.
Cupping:
With both hands, hold either side of a leave with your thumbs and forefingers. Slowly pull from the center of the petal outward. Only pull in the center of the petal. This will create a cupping of the paper (which is what gives it the petal-like quality). Stretching to the edge of the petal will make it loose its shape.
Create pointy leave:
The “twisted and folded” side will be the area that will be pointed. Use your thumb and forefinger to squeeze a point.
STEP 4: Create the Succulent
Start with the leave numbered 1. Glue the first leave to the dowel stick. Glue each petal so that it creates an alternating pattern. Use all the leaves numbered 1. Then work your way down to numbers, continue sticking leaves, almost like you are filling gaps.
STEP 6: Finish Off
Finish off by spreading the petals so that the succulent takes shape. Stick it in a pot.
Place it in an area which will generate lots of enjoyment for you and others.
