Not just for breakfast Smashbrowns

  • 2 to 3 Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 2 shallots thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (30 ml)
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  1. Boil potatoes. Drain water. In a bowl, add potatoes and garlic cloves and mash. Keep potatoes a little chunky to add texture. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat oil on medium heat in a frying pan. Cook shallots until translucent. Should take 5 minutes.
  3. Add shallots to smashed potatoes. Add smashed potatoes to a pan, sprinkle with salt and pepper and fry. Using a spatula flip the potatoes constantly to allow them to crisp up and turn golden brown. Should take about 5 minutes.
