Overview

British property experts Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer are back in their first brand new property series for over a decade. They’re helping families who’ve fallen out of love…with their home but can’t agree how to remedy it. One wants to give up and list it, but the other wants to renovate so everyone can love it. This is where Kirstie and Phil come in.

Kirstie will use all her skills to completely transform the house. There will be extensions, new kitchens and some serious structural work in the hope of convincing them to stay put. Meanwhile Phil will prove that there are amazing homes out there and selling up and listing is the best option. Once they’ve done all they can to help these battling families, they will ask one emotionally driven question: Are you going to Love it or List it?

Episode 8

This is a show with a difference – featuring a flat, practically on the banks of the Thames in central London, which Gareth and Tina have owned for ten years. In that time they’ve got married and had two daughters but while Tina loves being within walking distance of work, schools, clubs and all the sights Gareth wants a big family home in the suburbs.

It’s an all too common dilemma, and one that Kirstie and Phil have lots of experience with. Of course Kirstie is with Tina – why give yourself a lengthy commute if a few simple changes will make their home as spectacular as its location? So she sets about redesigning their home. It’s not easy though, as this is a leasehold property, which can’t be extended. Elsewhere, country boy Phil is on Gareth’s side – he believes if you get out of the big smoke you get a lot more bang for your buck. So he’s got a detached house with a pool, secluded semis with all mod cons and wide open green space to boot to tempt the Woodgyer-Hares family away from their small flat.

But, when Gareth and Tina have seen all three houses and the work to their own home is done, will they decide to Love It or List It?

Episode 7

In this episode Kirstie and Phil meet the Alcorns, a family of four living in the royal burgh of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. They live in a conservation area and while dad Dave loves their grey-stone Victorian Villa for its picture-book charm, Mum Amy despises its lack of practicality. With 2 children, no off-road parking, no 3rd bedroom or downstairs bathroom it’s not just the small draughty kitchen where things are feeling decidedly icy for this pair. After three years, they need Phil and Kirstie to help them decide once and for all if they should stay or go.

Kirstie sets about adding practicality to period charm and Phil dedicates his time to showing off detached homes with dream views. But when Amy and Dave have to answer the all-important question, will they decide to Love it or List it?

Episode 6

In this episode Kirstie and Phil meet IT consultant Graham and his partner of 11 years VIP travel consultant Ryan. They’ve been fighting over their 17th century cottage in the Surrey village of Cranleigh because, charming though it may be, it’s size this pair are after. Graham thinks the answer to their problem would be to sell this cottage and buy a more practical house up the road. But James has his eye on an all singing all dancing extension – and, some might say, his eyes are bigger than his wallet…

So it’s up to Kirstie to reign everyone in with a clever, economical plan to redesign the house, while Phil finds out what 650,000 pounds gets you in Britain’s most expensive county.

After being tempted with Surrey’s best while the budget for their build continues to swell, when Graham and James are asked that all-important question, will they decide to Love It or List It?

Episode 5

Kirstie and Phil are back in a brand new series of the show where they’re helping couples who’ve fallen out of love… with their houses. Last year Kirstie won the series with 4 ‘loves’ to Phil’s 2 ‘lists’ but Mr Spencer has been in training and this year he’s fighting back.

Each episode will see the nation’s favourite property pairing meet families whose house no longer fits their requirements. After listening to our couples’ issues and embarking on a fact-finding mission to see how the family use their home, the super-competitive duo will go about convincing their property charges that their way is the right way.

In this episode Kirstie and Phil meet the Charles family in Birmingham. Midwife Mum Carla hates their 3-bed semi. Husband Dr Richard, on the other hand says if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. As Phil and Kirstie soon find out though, there’s plenty to fix at the house. Cracks in the walls, a kitchen Carla has been waiting to get updated for thirteen years and a loft that doesn’t meet building regulations. Something’s got to give and Kirstie’s determined it won’t be the ceiling.

It’s a huge project. So while Phil’s house-hunting in Birmingham’s swankiest postcode, Kirstie’s paint-shopping in the bargain-basement. But when Carla and Richard have to answer the all-important question, will they decide to Love it or List it?

Episode 4

In this episode Kirstie and Phil meet Karyn and Duncan. They have been arguing for more than two years over their 3-bed semi in the wilds of Stirlingshire. Karyn bought it because it came with land for her horses. Now it’s family that’s a priority and she wants a bigger, better home. Partner Duncan however, can’t see how they’ll ever find a better home. He loves the rural views, the river at the bottom of the drive, the potential of the property and the isolation. To make sure he doesn’t end up suffering total isolation though, Kirstie and Phil want to bring this couple together again by helping help them decide, once and for all, whether to love or list.

Karyn and Duncan agree on one thing. They need change and our property experts are doing all they can to give it to them, but when Phil and Kirstie ask the all-important question, will they decide to Love it or List it?

Episode 3

In this episode Kirstie and Phil meet Barbara and Stephen Beaumont. After twenty happy years in their Riverside cottage in Surrey, retirement has meant a parting of the ways when it comes to how they should spend the next twenty. Stephen isn’t one for change. He loves their Victorian cottage, and the many rooms he’s commandeered for his ‘treasures’. Barbara on the other hand dreams of a new start in vibrant Chichester and a fairer distribution of space. A separate room for her drum-kit would be a start! What they need is someone to help them shape their future together, so it’s up to Kirstie and Phil to help them decide whether to love or list.

Kirstie has her eye on redistributing the wealth of what she sees as a prime property. Not just by giving some of the living space back to Barbara, but by turning the ground floor on its axis to make the river the focus of the house – rather than the backdrop. But, she’ll have a job on her hands getting any design decisions past Stephen, even though he’s the one who wants to stay. Walls might come and go but ancient carpets will stay…

As for Phil he’s got the tough job of finding properties in one of the least affordable cities in the UK – and one that’s been voted best for retirees. Nevertheless with character and view on his shopping list he has three incredible houses to show Barbara – and try to win over Stephen. One has turrets and its own drumming room already, another has an entire floor with Stephen’s name on it and another has the Georgian character they’re looking for with some eye-popping mod cons inside.

With a whole new lease of life opening up in front of their very eyes, and both our property experts doing all they can to help Stephen and Barbara make a decision, when Phil and Kirstie ask the all-important question, will they decide to Love it or List it?

Episode 2

In this episode Kirstie and Phil meet a couple of doctors – GP Kathleen Mackie and her anaesthetist husband Tom. Their 3-bedroom Victorian semi is plainly not working for them and their two young daughters Erin and Emily – it’s disorganised chaos with Tom’s sporting obsessions – canoes and boats taking root in lots of these rooms. It means this high ceilinged house with its big rooms feels cramped and is making their busy lives even more stressful. City girl Kathleen loves the location of their home and reckons the house could be made to work with some Kirstie inspired magic, but Tom wants to sell up and maybe find a better life for him and all his girls in the country. Sadly after years of arguing they just can’t agree on how to get out of this pickle so it’s up to Kirstie and Phil to nurse these doctors to a unanimous decision whether to love or list.

Kirstie has got instinctive plans to make the downstairs work with a better layout and miles more storage – but she’ll still be ‘gently’ persuading Tom to do a serious declutter. We won’t mention the bicycle on top of the wardrobe or the kayak atop the four poster bed! Phil on the other hand is doing what he does best and has found a selection of incredible properties both near to the city and out in the country with space and features to rival their own. From a barn conversion near the lovely town of Morpeth out in the sticks to homes that offer the Kathleen-friendly kitchen and the Tom-friendly outside storage in the coastal town of Whitley Bay. Phil can smell a list a mile off and reckons he may have this one in the bag.

Our property experts both try their best to win the couple over and do all they can to help Tom and Kathleen make a decision but it really does come down to the all-important question: will they decide to Love it or List it?

Episode 1

In this episode Kirstie and Phil meet recently married couple Matt and Lucia. Their 4-bedroom detached house in Royal Wootton Basset is creaking at the seams as they, and three grown-up kids from previous relationships, try to live in harmony. Lucia has lived in the house for 12 years but feels it’s ugly and dysfunctional with everyone fighting for supremacy in the tiny kitchen but for Matt, well it’s been his home for just the 4 years and he’s grown to love it. Its layout is unconventional with boxy room next to boxy room and no sense of flow, hence no one wants to use these boring rooms and everyone congregates in the kitchen. There are also animals to contend with – Lucia loves rescuing the odd stray so there are 4 cats, 2 dogs and a yard full of hens! The battle lines for these 2 have been drawn and it’s up to Kirstie and Phil to referee.

Kirstie immediately sets about trying to accommodate a large kitchen and change the entire bottom floor layout so that there is more useable adult space. Phil on the other hand is doing what he does best and has found a selection of incredible properties to rival their own. He’s found a period house packed with charm, a house with a kitchen-diner to die for as well as a cracking garden with ready-made chicken run and a detached house that’s much bigger than their current house.

Kirstie and Phil both try their best to win the couple over and do all they can to help Matt and Lucia make a decision but it really does come down to the all-important question: will they decide to Love it or List it?
