Laundry Caddy

For this project, we repurposed an old bookshelf! The great thing about repurposing is that half the work is already done for you! Have fun with a bold fabric for the ironing board, or choose a paint colour that will match your personal style!

PST 18 Cordless Jigsaw Cupboard/shelf to repurpose
PHO planer Ply wood Top 18mm – 300 x 1000mm – 1 piece
PSR 18 Cordless drill driver Pine 20mm PAR NB not warped
PSR 1080 Cordless drill driver Drawer 758 x 328mm – 1 piece
PEX Sander Divider 330 x 280mm – 1 piece
(grain in long direction)
Spray gun shelf 280 x 150mm – 1 piece
(grain in long direction)
Extra clean cut wood blades triangle supports to be measured and cut
Staple Gun Batting 1200 x 500mm – 1 piece
Thick material 1200 x 500mm – 1 piece
Paint – PVA 1 ltr
Universal primer water based – 1 ltr
small rubber feet – 4 of
4 wheels 50mm – 4 pieces with locks
Ceramic Door knob to match paint
Multi plug with +/- 1.5mtr extension cable
1 x good quality 3 pin plug
2 x hinges (to fit 20mm pine)
magnetic door catch
2 x baskets to fit top shelves

Follow these steps

  1. Cut shelf at the bottom to make the unit the right height.
  2. Cut the top lip off to make it flat
  3. Insert divider on the top shelf
  4. Cut door to size
  5. Cut iron rest plate and side supports to size
  6. Attach to the side of the unit
  7. Make supports for wheels (only if wheels will be added)
  8. Sand and paint with primer and paint
  9. Cut ironing board to size and shape
  10. Rout edges
  11. Attach batting and material
  12. Fasten onto painted shelf
  13. Attach door and catch
  14. Put on feet/wheels
  15. Insert shelves
