Sweet and Spiced Pecans

What makes this recipe really sing: The sweetness of the agave and strong pepper taste makes this a perfect cocktail nut. These also freeze beautifully. Make a double batch and when people just pop over you have a hidden treasure in the freezer for them.

Yield: 4 to 6 servings.


  • 1/4 cup dark agave nectar
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 cups pecan


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a medium bowl stir together agave, pepper, salt, allspice, sugar and add pecans, tossing to coat well.
  3. Spread pecans in a shallow baking pan and bake in middle of oven 15 to 18 minutes, then stir and bake 7 minutes more.
  4. Transfer to a sheet of parchment paper and let cool. 
  5. When cool enough to handle break apart pecans.
