Requirements

  • 2 x Black feather +/- 90 mm
  • 2 x Short black feather +/-60 mm
  • 2 x Guinea fowl feather +/- 55 mm
  • 20 cm x Camel coloured cord
  • 20 cm x Mustard coloured cord
  • 20 cm x Black coloured cord
  • 24 cm x Chocolate leather cord
  • 2 x Brown teething beads
  • 2 x 8 mm Rondelle Chinese crystals
  • 2 x Black rhinestone-encrusted charms
  • 2 x 10 mm Glass bicone beads
  • 32 cm x Fine cable link chain in bronze
  • 8 x Bronze leather crimps
  • 2 x 8 mm (OD) Jump ring
  • 1 pair Shepherd’s hooks in bronze

Instructions

  • Step 1
Use a hobby drill with a 1 mm drill bit to enlarge the hole of the teething beads so the black cord will fit through it. Alternatively just use a sharp metal object to enlarge the hole.
  • Step 2
Cut the black cord in half and tie a small knot at the bottom of one of the strands. Thread one teething bead onto it and push it down against the knot. The teething bead will sit firmly so there is no need to tie a knot above the bead to keep it in position. Cut the cord so the finished product measures 110 mm.
  • Step 3
Cut the leather cord in half and tie 1 x rhinestone charm at the bottom of one of the leather cords. Cut the leather so it measures 85 mm.
  • Step 4
Cut the camel cord in half and tie a small knot at the bottom of one of the strands. Thread one Chinese crystal onto the cord and push it down against the knot. Cut the cord to measure 70 mm.
  • Step 5
Cut the mustard cord in half and tie a small knot at the bottom of one of the strands. Thread one bicone glass bead onto the cord and push it down against the knot. Cut the cord to measure 60 mm.
  • Step 6
Cut the following lengths of chain: 90 mm, 45 mm, 15 mm, 2 x 5 mm
  • Step 7
Place the tip / quill of a feather into a leather crimp and flatten the sides, using flat nose pliers, to secure it. Repeat for the remaining feathers.
  • Step 8
Take one of the 5 mm lengths of chain and open the last link. Thread the leather crimp with the guinea fowl feather onto it and close the link. Repeat with the other 5 mm length of chain but use the long black feather. Take the 15 mm length of chain and connect it to the short black feather.
  • Step 9
Crimp all the strands of cord together in one leather crimp. Be sure to use the same sequence for the other earring.
  • Step 10
Open the jump ring and thread the following sequence of items: 1 x 45 mm chain, 1 x 90 mm chain, leather crimp with all the cords (Step 9), small black feather, large black feather, guinea fowl feather, 1 x shepherd’s hook. Close the jump ring. Repeat steps 1-10 to make the other earring.
