
Drum Cooler
Re-purposing material to make once off furniture is a must if you are serious about DIY. In this week’s episode of Get It Done, Peter and Annalien converts an old metal drum into a drinks cooler.
You will need
Angle Grinder with skinny discs and flap disc | Plywood 18mm |
POF Router | Table top 900mm x 900mm – 2 pieces |
18 Volt Cordless drill driver | 35mm brandering |
PSR1080 cordless screwdriver | Legs 400mm – 8 pieces |
Pex sander | Cross slats 700 mm – 6 pieces |
PFS 2000 spray gun | Metal drum large – 1 piece with top NB must be in good condition |
PCM compound mitre | Bath plug with chain – 1 piece |
spray paint Grey primer – 2 tins | |
pop rivet gun | Black spray paint 2 tins |
Spray paint colour | |
Varnish | |
4 x 40mm screws | |
metal L brackets +/- 70mm – 3 pieces | |
pop rivets | |
Thinners – 1 bottle | |
wood glue |
Follow these steps
- Cut metal drum to desired size using angle
- Drill holes in the drum for L brackets
- Fit L brackets with pop rivets
- Drill hole for bath plug
- Cut top to size and in a circle (keep centre for the Ottoman)
- Join top and bottom table tops
- Router edges
- Cut legs to size
- Cut middle slats to size
- Mark and cut half lap joint
- Join legs to form a frame
- Sand and varnish legs and tops
- Attach top to drum
- Fit to legs
