Chocolate Sundaes
Serves 2
Ingredients
- 2 scoops of good vanilla ice cream
- 2 scoops of good chocolate ice cream
- 1 banana, sliced
- 2 tbsp chocolate sauce (see recipe below)
- 2 tbsp toffee sauce (see recipe below)
- 2 tbsp of toasted and chopped hazelnuts, or walnuts, or pecans
- 2 tbsp of whipped cream (optional)
For the Chocolate Sauce
- 110g dark chocolate
- 30g butter
- 30-50ml water
- a couple of tablespoonfuls of Rum, Brandy , Grand Marnier. Or 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp grated orange rind
For the Toffee Sauce
- 110g (4oz) butter
- 175g (6oz) brown sugar
- 110g (4oz) sugar
- 275g (10oz) golden syrup
- 225ml (8fl.oz) cream
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Method
For the Sundaes
- Take 2 sundae glasses, into each put 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream,1 scoop of chocolate ice cream,1/2 a sliced banana, then drizzle each with 1 tbsp of hot chocolate sauce,1 tbsp of hot toffee sauce, sprinkle each with 1 tbsp of toasted and chopped nuts and finish off with 1 tbsp of whipped cream!!
For the Chocolate Sauce
- Do try to use a good quality chocolate for this, something with at least 50% cocoa solids. Keeps for weeks in the fridge, if you can manage not to eat it all in one sitting.
- Place the chocolate, butter and water in a small saucepan and very gently melt it, stirring regularly do not allow it to boil, add liqueur if required
For the Toffee Sauce
- Put all the ingredients into a saucepan on the heat, and boil for about 4 or 5 minutes, until it is smooth, stirring regularly
